Fatherhood – Naval Shah

Head Embryology Operations, Quality Assurance, and Research

People say life changes after marriage. I say, it truly transforms when you become a father. As an Embryologist, I have helped couples become parents, and when they return holding a child we once saw as an embryo under a microscope, the feeling is indescribable. But becoming a father myself gave that joy a new dimension. To me, fatherhood is a journey of responsibility, quiet strength, and unconditional love, yet it feels effortless, because the moment my daughter runs into my arms after a long day, every stress dissolves.

The role of fathers has quietly evolved from provider to present companion. Like me, today’s father plays sports, shares secrets, and is the one the child whispers to, “Pappa, please don’t tell this to Mumma.” We are no longer silent figures in the background, but active, emotionally engaged, and intentional in giving our children the very best.

Emotionally, fatherhood is a reckoning. My mother once said, “You will understand everything when you become a parent.” She was right. You begin to see your own parents’ sacrifices with fresh eyes, and that gratitude quietly shapes the father you choose to become. I navigate my emotions not through words, but through presence, in every hug, every bedtime story, and every whispered secret kept.

Fatherhood is not just a role; it is a continuous evolution into a more empathetic human being; to give without counting, to love without condition and to be present, always.
